Everyday Peter's Will

Our son Peter has a strong will and so does his mother.  And often the two wills will clash but on the day when Peter was three and decided to use the neighbor’s doggy-doo as play dough I was in no mood to argue about who was going to clean his head to toe mess.  But over and over Pete screamed; “I do it myself,” as I tried to undress him.  Eventually, I managed to throw his clothes into the washing machine and start the bathwater with Peter yelling in the background, “I do it myself!”

But when I went outside to haul Pete to the bath he wasn’t there.  He was downstairs on top of the washer trying to put his clothes back on.  He looked at me and said, “I do it myself.”  I was not amused and he was disciplined.  It was not a pleasant moment for either of us.  Discipline never is.  But from Hebrews 12:11 we know that peace of mind and a harvest of righteousness await those who have been trained by it…everyday.
