Real Love in MarriageFriday Matters-April 15, 2022
Everyday Marriage Well Water Marriage Advice 101 from Proverbs 5:15; “Drink water from your own well--share your love only with your spouse, never share it with strangers.” Hey this is Debbie Griffith with Everyday Matters. Problems with remaining faithful in marriage usually begin when a person doesn’t feel loved and think they deserve to be happy. The enemy creeps in with his lies telling us that marriage shouldn't be any work and if we really want to have a good time and feel good we should maybe start drinking with someone we find more fun and attractive. When a person acts on those thoughts and feelings that’s usually the time when a marriage begins to dissolve. That’s why it's so important that couples work at making time for one another in a good ol’ fashioned date without their children. Find out your love language and begin communicating in the way each of you knows and feels loved. Validate and be refreshed from the well of love you both have…everyday. 4/14/2022
Listening in LoveThursday Matters- April 14, 2022
Everyday Job Explanation Maybe the reason God doesn’t explain to Job why terrible things happen is that He knows what Job needs isn’t an explanation. Hey this is Debbie Griffith with Everyday Matters. Frederick Buechner’s shares this insight from his book; “Wishful thinking.” “Suppose that God did explain. Suppose that God were to say to Job that the reason the cattle were stolen, the crops ruined, and the children killed was thus and so, spelling everything out right down to and including the case of boils. Job would have his explanation. But Job would still have to face his kid’s empty chairs at breakfast every morning. Having a complete theological justification of his boils, he would still have to scratch and burn. God doesn’t reveal His grand design. He reveals Himself. He doesn’t show why things are as they are. He shows His face. And Job says, I had only heard about you before, but now I have seen you with my own eyes.” And this is the same God we too can see…everyday. 4/13/2022

Everyday Farmer “God how are You going to do this and when are You going to do it? Why is it taking so long?” Have those questions been yours? Hey this is Debbie Griffith with Everyday Matters. But think about the farmer who tends his crops. He just keeps sleeping and rising and does what he can to enrich his soil and cultivate his crops but leaves the rest in the hands of God. Jesus spoke of the patient farmer in the Bible from Mark 4:26-28. He sows his seed in the ground and then goes on his way, sleeping and getting up each morning and eventually the ground brings what the farmer has hoped for. The farmer doesn’t know how the harvest will come or exactly when it will come but his job is to get up in the morning, do his work and then go to bed at night. He’s patient until the harvest arrives. Wait in hope. God is working. And while you’re waiting you can grow by reading what God has to say in the Bible…everyday. 4/12/2022
The Grace of GodTuesday Matters- April 12, 2022
Everyday Bumper Sticker Sin A guy and his car are standing at the pearly gates. The car is covered with Christian bumper stickers. The guy is trying to talk his way into heaven, but Peter won't budge. The guy says, "But look at my car!" Peter finally compromises and says, "OK, your car can come in..." Hey this is Debbie Griffith with Everyday Matters. Much of the time people don't realize what forgiveness truly means and they believe the sin that separates them from God in the first place, is worth it. And sometimes they look at forgiveness as a license to keep on living in the flesh but when we have a relationship with God, we get the Holy Spirit living in us and THAT is what keeps us from staying comfortable in our sin. You look at Paul talking to the Romans, and he says, “I sometimes fall and do what I don’t want but with Jesus I don’t have to stay down.” We can walk and drive in freedom when we let God’s forgiveness change us…everyday. 4/11/2022
Kindness MattersMonday Matters-April 11, 2022
Everyday Tenderhearted “Yea, I know…we need to forgive and be tenderhearted to one another as God does for us. I know.” Hey this is Debbie Griffith with Everyday Matters. Okay well, knowing and living it out are two different things. Jesus calls us to be kind and tenderhearted toward everyone, even to those we don’t like very much which can be hard if they’ve hurt us. Romans 12:9; “Let your love be genuine and outdo one another in showing honor.” Personal, political, religious, and any other type of enemies or “opponents” should be treated with kindness which means assuming the best and not the worst of those we find difficult to deal with. Forgiveness doesn’t release the one who hurt you. It releases you. Having a tender heart is my willingness to see the pain from the point of view of the person who hurt me. So, we need to have God’s eyes and His heart to see that person as He does. God can change your heart and then healing will begin…everyday. 4/8/2022
Pride StinksFriday Matters-April 8, 2022
Everyday Pride I was stinky. Oh, I had taken a shower, but I had pride and pride stinks. Pride is difficult to deal with because we don’t think we have it. Hey this is Debbie Griffith with Everyday Matters. I notice my stink most when I have zero patience with someone who’s hurt me. In the Bible in James 4:10 I read to ask God to humble me so I can see the other as He does. He then promises to lift me in hope. The signs of pride include an unwillingness to admit fault or take responsibility for our actions. Pride wants to do all the talking and none of the listening. Yeah, I know you’re probably thinking of someone who needs to hear this, but perhaps it’s you! God gets you. He sees the hurt. I get you because I’ve been there. Are you still screaming? Maybe it’s time to stop and listen.” Humility and surrender to God will set you free and you’ll be a sweet fragrance for everyone to be around…everyday. 4/7/2022
You Are LovedThursday Matters- April 7, 2022
Everyday Significance What makes you feel important loved or even liked? How often do you check the “likes” on your Instagram or Facebook post? I know. Been there. Done that. Hey this is Debbie Griffith with Everyday Matters. But REALLY the place I feel the most love is when I know who I am and whose I am. I’m God’s girl. You see, He loves all of you and He LONGS to have you rid yourself of the garbage and dirt that makes you feel ashamed or unloved. We’re so important and significant to God. He gets us, gives us gifts to have purpose and He never stops loving us. Jesus instructs that we’re to be willing to accept ourselves as least in importance. The least is a symbol of those who have the lowest places in society; but Jesus concern was that these should not be treated as inferior (Matthew 18:10). He was well aware of their feelings of shame, and because of their humility and His compassion they were of REALLY great value, just like you…everyday. 4/6/2022
HumilityWednesday Matters- April 6, 2022
Everyday Humility Remember that song, “Oh Lord, it’s hard to be humble when you’re perfect in everyday way?” We laugh because, “as if.” But sometimes we’re so busy pointing out the faults of others that we don’t take time to look at our own. Hey this is Debbie Griffith with Everyday Matters. But, true humility is not a denial of your positive attributes. It isn’t a humble person who says, “I’m not good at anything.” This is an expression of pride which says, “Look at poor me. I must have special consideration because I’m so weak. Please pity me...treat me well.” On the contrary, the truly humble person recognizes their strengths and weaknesses and so rather than a concentration on yourself, humility leads you to look around you for opportunities to encourage and help others. When you understand that humility is knowing both your strengths and weaknesses, it helps you to be confident in the gifts God’s given you rather than feeling bad about what you don’t have. Happy and free people are humble people…everyday. 4/5/2022
Quiet KindnessTuesday Matters- April 5, 2022
Everyday Husband Flowers I still remember the “just because I care” flowers from my husband sent a few years ago. Hey this is Debbie Griffith from Everyday Matters. I had called my husband at his office to lament about some unresolved drama that I had …so Dan told me to come to his office. I did. But… then out of nowhere a “stress arrow” hit my husband and he began speaking from his book of Lamentations. He began talking about our finances, his workload, and health stuff. It was unusual for me but I sat SILENTLY and prayed while tears ran down my cheeks. I left the office with a hug and knew that everything would work out and be okay. An hour later a beautiful bouquet of flowers arrived and a card from my husband saying; “I love you.” At the same moment a friend called and said, “I was praying and thought you might need to talk.” That’s JUST like God, supplying what we need when we need it…everyday. 4/4/2022
God’s GraceMonday Matters-April 4, 2022
Everyday Works How do you view yourself? Do you think about what God sees or what others see? It’s definitely a process to be able to hear God’s voice and listen to Him alone. Hey this is Debbie Griffith with Everyday Matters. When I got my eyes off of how I looked I began to truly see myself the way God saw me. THEN I was like; “Where should I go, who should I meet, and “How can I serve?” Prior to that I made wonderful plans and then asked God, “Bless what I’ve decided is good.” God is not a Genie in a Bible. It’s not about saying the correct verses and doing super good deeds, it’s about trusting God’s faithfulness and believing He knows the best plan for your life. God loves us for who we are and not for what we do. He gives us purpose with the gifts He’s given us simply because He loves us…everyday. |
