God’s Real LoveMonday Matters-October 17, 2022
Everyday Called I am thankful for God’s call on my life to love and serve others. Hey this is Debbie Griffith with Everyday Matters. He hasn’t called me to hand out a rulebook or a list of “you should” and “you should nots,” which means He hasn’t called on me to point out the sins of others. He knows I have enough of my own stuff to cleanup, and with His grace, how can I afford not to extend this gift to others? I love people. I want to have fun, be real, love God and love others. But it’s also important to note that at no point does God stop being holy. Out of His great holiness and power and might and mercy, do we then deny our own sinful desires and bow to Him. Our flesh wants what it wants and more of it. So it’s only by God’s Holy Spirit in us that we can deny the flesh. I know the message of “sin is not in” and love always wins, but true love involves compassion with truth and His grace…everyday. 10/14/2022
Unconditional LoveFriday Matters- October 14, 2022
Everyday Completely Loved It’s taken me years to really grasp that God fully knows me and yet He fully loves me, completely, just as am. Hey this is Debbie Griffith with Everyday Matters. I can live authentically, free and unashamed and I can share this love with others so they too can be set free. What God doesn’t love is sin because it’s a barrier to us having a relationship with Him. Sin wins unless pardoned. I know that all are welcome at God’s table because we’re all His creation. He will never reject or withdraw His love from us, but He does reject sin. Sin is not welcome at the table. God is absolutely holy. In His holiness He must punish sin. We are all sinners. Yet because He is love, He didn’t want to punish us. He offered Himself as a sacrifice on the cross to pay the full price for our sin. His resurrection proves He succeeded. The best way to welcome people to the table is through love and by God’s love He will show Himself with all we need to know…everyday. 10/13/2022
Moving ForwardThursday Matters- October 13, 2022
Everyday Go Forward Are you listening? Jesus is speaking. Hear His voice; “You are forgiven. Today is a new day. Hey this is Debbie Griffith with Everyday Matters. God’s Word from Lamentations 3:23: “Great is My mercy. It’s new every morning and great is My faithfulness. Everyday I try to “be better” by choosing what I should think on and how I should behave which often means I remain silent, shut my mouth and pray. Just think of the amazing gift God offers us! We have an opportunity to receive God’s forgiveness which means our soiled sin rags are washed and made white by the blood of the Lamb.” (Revelation 7:14) Don’t be discouraged. There’s a whole lot of us who so wanted to be faithful, but who at times got defeated, beat-up by life and tested by trials. We have the bloodied garments of life’s tribulations, but through it all we clung to the faith. This is the Gospel of Grace. Receive and share this love and grace with others. Carry on Christian Soldiers, onward and upward…everyday. 10/12/2022
Mental HealthWednesday Matters- October 12, 2022
Everyday Thoughts How many crabby days should you have in a row before you think you need to make a change? How about on Day One? Hey this is Debbie Griffith with Everyday Matters. Oh, I get you, I know it is hard when life is hard but try this: For every one thing going wrong in your life, there are ten things going right. Don’t think about your problems. Don’t talk about your problems. Don’t exaggerate your problems and then look at Philippians 2:14 “Do all things without complaining.” Try thinking and talking obsessively about your blessings. Take a few minutes to rapid fire each blessing that comes to mind or make a written list of your top 10 blessings and then hold that list in your hand and rapid fire say what you’re thankful for out loud. This earth experience is hard. It’s not our home but there is always something to be thankful for. Stay focused on what is true. You are enough because God is enough in you…everyday. 10/11/2022
DetachingTuesday Matters- October 11, 2022
Everyday Detachment Loving someone who has an addiction problem can be very challenging. Hey this is Debbie Griffith with Everyday Matters. I remember hearing the story of a woman who was married to an alcoholic and every night her husband would come home drunk, collapse on the floor and fall asleep. And every night this woman would somehow get him up and put him to bed. She became worn out and frazzled from rescuing her husband. A friend suggested she attend Al Anon and there she learned about “Detachment.” The next night when her husband came home drunk and fell asleep on the floor, she simply put a blanket over him and left him there. She loved him by covering him but by not picking him up she was detaching. She did not rescue him. She created a loving boundary and let go. Sometimes love calls us to let go completely. It can be a scary and uncertain time but God will guide you always (Isaiah 55:11). And He’ll often send others to help who’ve been through a similar trial. Reach out. You are not alone...everyday. 10/10/2022
We’re all in NEEDMonday Matters-October 10, 2022
Everyday All of Us It’s so much easier to point out what’s wrong with everybody else rather than look at our own junk to clean up. Hey this is Debbie Griffith with Everyday Matters. But we are all sinners, and we all need help which is why our first step toward reconciliation is to confess our sins, receive God’s pardon and walk forward in a restored relationship with our Creator. We cannot do anything to merit grace, and yet we look at someone like Mother Teresa and think surely she entered into heaven because of what she did. If we emulate her sacrificial love in some small fashion, we are lulled into a false sense of security that persuades us that we have no need of repentance today. When the little saint humbly confessed her brokenness and her desperate need for God, either we were uncomprehending or we secretly suspected her of false modesty. Yet she got it, and by the love she received, she gave in great amounts to others. Receive God’s real love and then walk forward and give it to others…everyday. 10/7/2022
Trust what is TrueFriday Matters- October 7, 2022
Everyday Always Trusting Psalm 62:8 tell us to trust in God at all times. It teaches us that we are not to have faith in God just once in a while, but at all the times. Hey this is Debbie Griffith with Everyday Matters. It is easy to trust God when things are going well. But when things are not going well, we develop character by trusting God in our difficult situations. And the more character we develop. the more our ability can be released. Stability releases ability. Many people have gifts that take them to places where their character cannot keep them. Gifts are given but character is developed. I have always been a communicator and a convincer. But in order for God to use my gifts as a speaker not only does He have to give me the gift, but I also have to have the character so that He can trust me to use my mouth to communicate His Word and heart and living loving Him in my private life as well as publicly…everyday. 10/6/2022
The Narrow Road to PeaceThursday Matters- October 6, 2022
Everyday What Road? There’s only one road to God? What? But that view is narrow minded. You’re right, it is narrow but through a relationship with Jesus, not religion, it becomes clear that the only way to God is through Jesus Christ and His sacrifice. Hey this is Debbie Griffith with Everyday Matters. There are amazing people who love others but think there are many roads to God and that true spirituality is just to love your neighbor and help the poor. How then do you know when you’ve given enough to get to God? What about the people who’ve been taught to hate? Are the poor just virtuous? That sounds right, but listen, if a soldier drapes his body over a grenade to save his friends, we recognize it as a sacrifice. Something we honor, but not something we can pay him back for. The same is true with Jesus. We can’t earn our salvation. It’s a gift we have a choice to receive by accepting His sacrifice Christ for our sins. Trust the path He sets and what He’s done for you and then walk in full freedom…everyday. 10/5/2022
Life is HardWednesday Matters- October 5, 2022
Everyday It is Hard Do you have prayers where you cry about all that is wrong and list what needs fixing, it’s not you but everybody and everything else? Hey this is Debbie Griffith with Everyday Matters. Yep. Been there…done that. God gets you. It’s okay. He cares about our pain and all that happens to us and knows about it even before it hits us. Sometimes we stop praying and give up because God didn’t answer the prayer like we thought – our sick friend got sicker and the marriage we prayed would stay together ended in divorce. That’s hard. I’m sorry if that’s been the outcome for you. But remember, GOD WILL NEVER GIVE UP ON YOU. Nothing you do or don’t will cause Him to withdraw His love. There’s something redeemable in your mess and pain right now. Get up, bring a gift to someone this day, a card of encouragement or a muffin, something. Serving someone else will help you focus on hope…everyday. 10/4/2022
Jesus is the GospelTuesday Matters- October 4, 2022
Everyday Jesus Gospel I’ve been in Christian group settings where Christians say, “I am a follower of Jesus” instead of, “I’m a Christian,” because of the stigma it may bring. Hey, this is Debbie Griffith with Everyday Matters. And “yes,” I’ve been one. Sometimes we get bogged down about being right and then putting down others who do “it” wrong. We end up talking issues, rules and programs and what’s missing from these discussions is the simple message of the Gospel with is; love God, love others and do stuff to show His love in action. Author Carl Medearis writes; “The Gospel is not a ‘what.’ It is not a ‘how.’ The gospel is a ‘Who.’ The gospel is literally the good news of Jesus. Jesus is the gospel.” HE still lives. He claims to be the way, not just show the way. There is an enormous difference in religion and the relationship Jesus offers. It’s not based on what we do but what He’s done. Are you living is such a way that shows Jesus has changed your life …everyday? |
