Expectations of PeaceMonday Matters-May 17, 2021
Everyday Success “A key to success is playing the hand you were dealt like it was the hand you wanted.” I had to really think if there was truth to that. Yes, I may not have wanted what was dealt but “here it is” so what am I gonna do with it? My choices; scream, cry, complain and hide or I make the best of the situation and find the lesson, and blessing in it. We can let experiences change us for the better or ruin us. Character more often is developed in crisis when we stop focusing on the hurt and search for the good where success may be hidden. During my recovery of scoliosis back surgery, 14 years ago, I was miserable yet I don’t regret what I went through. God taught me things I couldn’t have learned another way. In brokenness we can find beauty and success…everyday. 5/14/2021
Don’t Give UpFriday Matters-May 14, 2021
Everyday Keep On-Keeping On Do you have prayers where you cry about all that is wrong and list what needs fixing, it’s not you but everybody and everything else? Yep. Been there…done that. God gets you. It’s okay. He cares about our pain and all that happens to us and knows about it even before it hits us. Sometimes we stop praying and give up because God didn’t answer the prayer like we thought – our sick friend got sicker and the marriage we prayed would stay together ended in divorce. That’s hard. I’m sorry if that’s been the outcome for you. But remember, GOD WILL NEVER GIVE UP ON YOU. Nothing you do or don’t will cause Him to withdraw His love. There’s something redeemable in your mess and pain right now. Get up, bring a gift to someone this day, a card of encouragement or a muffin, something. Serving someone else will help you focus on hope…everyday. 5/13/2021
Jesus LIVES for YouThursday Matters- May 13, 2021
Everyday Jesus Follower I’ve been in Christian group settings where Christians say, “I am a follower of Jesus” instead of, “I’m a Christian,” because of the stigma it may bring. And “yes,” I’ve been one. Sometimes we get bogged down about being right and then putting down others who do “it” wrong. We end up talking issues, rules and programs and what’s missing from these discussions is the simple message of the Gospel with is; love God, love others and do stuff to show His love in action. Author Carl Medearis writes; “The Gospel is not a ‘what.’ It is not a ‘how.’ The gospel is a ‘Who.’ The gospel is literally the good news of Jesus. Jesus is the gospel.” HE still lives. He claims to be the way, not just show the way. There is an enormous difference in religion and the relationship Jesus offers. It’s not based on what we do but what He’s done. Are you living is such a way that shows Jesus has changed your life …everyday? 5/12/2021
Finances in MarriageWednesday Matters- May 12, 2021
Everyday Faith in Money Honey Money can be a big fighting issue between a husband and wife. It’s proved true for my husband Dan and me. But after almost 26 years of marriage, we’re strong which basically means I’m allowing God to take my strong will so I’m the sort of wife who helps my husband and not hinder him especially in the way I spend money. Giving me an allowance helped me stay within necessary boundaries. If I wanna blow my whole month’s allowance on shoes I can…I did. “But Debbie, you’re supposed to say; ‘Get thee behind me Satan when you’re tempted.’” “Dan, I did. But he said, ‘Ya know it looks even better from back here than it did in the mirror.’” Proverbs 31 tells us about being a godly woman and one virtue is a wife who can be trusted. Girls, honor God by honoring your husbands’ because it’s a journey we take together…everyday. 5/11/2021
God IS a RedeemerTuesday Matters- May 11, 2021
Everyday Jesus Surrender French fashion designer and businesswoman Coco Chanel said, “Don’t spend time beating on a wall, hoping to transform it into a door.” I don’t know about you but I’ve spent a fair amount of time pounding on a wall hoping for a door to open and circumstances to change. AND YET when I finally surrender, I mean really and not just say it and allow God to work with what He decides is best I have hope. Changes may not come in the way I imagine but it’s God’s best way. Psalm 103:7 is a “go-to” verse for me, “Put your hope in God for with Him is unfailing love and with Him is full redemption.” We can put our hope in other people or circumstances but when we let God have full control He is on the move and knows what’s for our best. Look for the blessing and lesson in all difficult circumstance and people in your life. Try it, you’ll like it…everyday. 5/10/2021
Life is a BattleMonday Matters-May 10, 2021
Everyday Sharpened Have you or do you know someone who’s served in the military? I know many and one of them is my husband, Dan. Military persons serve as an act of love for others. I remember Dan telling me that in the army they were constantly drilled that they needed to keep their weapons clean and ready for use. A useless weapon not only made the soldier useless, but also a liability because now someone else needs to pick up the slack. In Ephesian 6 God gives us a list of armor, but only one weapon—the Bible which is the Sword of the Spirit is the only offensive weapon of the six God’s calls us to “put on.” Our knowledge of the Word is its sharpness. There are so MANY things screaming for our attention and I’m sure, like me, you are being pulled in many directions. But God never changes no matter what the direction of our day is. So Let the Word be heard in your heart…everyday. 5/7/2021
Know Your Worth in ChristFriday Matters-May 7, 2021
Everyday Confident Dancer When our son Joey was four years old, he began taking dance classes in ballet, tap and jazz. He did this for six years but being the only boy dancer in a small town we knew there might be some teasing. I remember clearly in first grade when Joey told me what Bryce had to say about his dancing. “It’s stupid you’re in dancing. That’s for girls,” “What did you do Joey? “Oh, I just told him, ‘I’m sorry you have a problem with my dancing. Bryce. I guess I’ll pray for you.’ And then I walked away.” “Genius,” I thought. I couldn’t have written a better script. I love that Joey had the security not to worry about what someone else thought. In the Bible in 2 Corinthians, we can read that God through Jesus took on our sin and was the sacrifice to pay for something we could never earn. When we receive Christ say; “I am the righteousness of God and we can walk in confidence knowing who God says we are and it’s good because of Him… everyday. 5/6/2021
Jesus IS EnoughThursday Matters- May 6, 2021
Everyday Jesus IS Enough “Not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith.” Words of truth from Philippians 3:9. Be like Jesus. I be like Paul so MANY times. Paul was a Pharisee of the Pharisees and outwardly keeping the Law of Moses, self-righteous with a religious mind-set. Paul’s righteousness was works-based righteousness, but only true and cleansing righteousness comes from God’s work on the cross where we’re made right. Paul had to come to that truth, that all we need to come to, that his sin was inherited and Only the precious blood of the Lord Jesus Christ could cleanse his heart and wash away his sins. It is only through the grace of God that He sent His only begotten Son to pay the full price of our sins, so that simply by believing in Him we would be clothed in righteousness of God and never again be enslaved by sin. This by putting ou faith in Christ…everyday. 5/5/2021
God is FaithfulWednesday Matters- May 5, 2021
Everyday Faith in Hard Places Psalm 62:8 tell us to trust in Him at all times.” It teaches us that we are not have faith in God just once in a while, but at all the times. We need to learn to live from faith to faith trusting in the Lord when things are good and when things are bad. It is easy to trust God when things are going well. But when things are not going well, we develop character by trusting God in our difficult situations. And the more character we develop. the more our ability can be released. Stability releases ability. Many people have gifts that take them to places where their character cannot keep them. Gifts are given but character is developed. I have always been a communicator and a convincer. (We are gonna win, we are going to the Olympics)! But in order for God to use my gifts as a speaker not only does He have to give me the gift but I also have to have the character so that He can trust me to use my mouth to communicate His Word and heart and living loving Him in my private life as well as publicly…everyday. 5/4/2021
Don’t Give-UpTuesday Matters- May 4, 2021
Everyday Farmer “God how are You going to do this and when are You going to do it? Why is it taking so long?” Have those questions been yours? But think about the farmer who tends his crops. He just keeps sleeping and rising and does what he can to enrich his soil and cultivate his crops but leaves the rest in the hands of God. Jesus spoke of the patient farmer in the Bible from Mark 4:26-28. He sows his seed in the ground and then goes on his way, sleeping and getting up each morning and eventually the ground brings what the farmer has hoped for. The farmer doesn’t know how the harvest will come or exactly when it will come but his job is to get up in the morning, do his work and then go to bed at night. He’s patient until the harvest arrives. Wait in hope. God is working. He is the Great I Am. And while you’re waiting you can grow by being fed by His Word and trusting in His promises…everyday. |
