Selfishness-What About Me?Tuesday Matters- August 17, 2021
Everyday Me, Myself and I Pride is a difficult problem for us to deal with because it hides. We can see the pride in everyone else’s life but often not our own. Pride deceives us and causes us to think we don’t have it. Obadiah 1:3 tells us, “The pride of your heart has deceived you.” “Yeah,” I think, “I, I and I are my greatest problems.” It takes humility and compassion to forgive others while not focusing on their failures. Remember in a season of diversity and debate, “Seek to win people, not arguments.” Pride and love do not mix. Love is not proud, and it keeps no record of the hurt from others. Love “shakes it off.” Love doesn’t look down on others but how often when we feel bad about ourselves do we put someone else down because it’s easier than looking at our own junk? So, let’s pray, “God help. Fill us with Your love and grace to accept others as You do with genuine authenticity. Thanks, and AMEN…everyday. 8/16/2021
Feeling Lonely but Not AloneMonday Matters-August 16, 2021
Everyday Feeling Lonely I was lonely. God knew. But I also know 1 Peter 5:7 too where Jesus says, “Give Me all your cares. I care for you.” Hey this is Debbie Griffith with Everyday Matters. It was my third son, of the four, who helped take me away from my party with “Pity.” 17-year-old Joey let me have a movie date with him and I picked “Pride and Prejudice.” I know. Halfway through the movie I asked; “Joe, will it always be this way?” What mom? I was referring to a bruise on my face that just wasn’t disappearing like I wanted but deeper down I was asking; “Would this season of wait and lonely weirdness ever leave?” Joey replied, “Mom it will always be that way. It will never change.” And then he grinned in his sweet Joe way and said, “Mom, you’re being silly. Of course, it’s gonna be fine. It’s just a bruise. Why ask?” Because I need to hear out loud there’s hope, the belief that things will get better. So, I’m talking to you too. It will get better. There’s hope…everyday. 8/13/2021
Vulnerability to ServeFriday Matters-August 13, 2021
Everyday Vulnerable with Purpose “What’s my purpose? What am I supposed to be doing with my life?” I’d like to suggest that your purpose is in front of you. When Mother Teresa was asked how she was able to minister to so many people she replied, “I simply serve the person God puts in front of me.” Love and serve the people God puts in front of YOU each day. I realized that if I wanted to be known and loved for who I am, I first had to be honest and vulnerable so I could fully share who I am with others. I’ve found that the part of you you're most afraid to share is, more than likely, the part we’ve been waiting with bated breath to see. To be seen vulnerably is a risk, but it’s one worth taking because it allows others to be real and vulnerable too. Focus on the people God puts in front of you each day. You make a difference by taking the time to listen and connect. God does this with us too…everyday. 8/12/2021
Evangelism in Everyday LifeThursday Matters- August 12, 2021
Everyday Shopping Evangelism I was shopping in the Mall of America when this woman seemed to jump out of nowhere to show me some face creams from her little kiosk. And as she’s giving me this demonstration she says, “There’s something different about you, something special. What do you do?” So, I told her, “I have a radio program where I talk about how real God is in my everyday life.” “Well, I’m Jewish,” she says, “and God is my best friend especially now because I’m missing my home in France.” Then I told her how my son Joey prays for Israel. She just hugged me and cried, “I pray a double blessing on you and Joseph this day. Thank you.” And then that same day I read Isaiah 44:3, “I will pour My Spirit upon your offspring and My blessing upon your descendants.” The whole experience was amazing, and it reminded me what being a real missionary is all about; being a blessing to those God puts before you...everyday. 8/11/2021
Life is Hard & God is GoodWednesday Matters- August 11, 2021
Everyday Some Days Are Hard Some days are harder than others and yet God’s grace is always sufficient. God supplies what you need each day, so you can avoid fatigue, burnout, weariness and “mind crazies.” We must learn to live one day at a time or go crazy with the “what ifs” of the future. But listen, everyday we get a new batch of grace to go forward with. AMEN because I always use my allotted amount each day. Jesus teaches us in Matthew 6:34 to meet each day’s challenges as they come and not to borrow trouble from tomorrow. If we do that, then at the appointed time God’s grace will be available to us in sufficient supply. He helps us to face and overcome whatever may occur in our lives. One thing that helps me is to think on who I can be a blessing to especially when I find I’m feeling sorry for myself. God’s grace IS sufficient for you right now (2 Corinthians 12:9). “IS” is a present tense verb. Take a deep breath. You’re gonna be okay today and…everyday. 8/10/2021
Thankfulness in LifeTuesday Matters- August 10, 2021
Everyday Thank God for Blessings How many crabby days should you have in a row before you think you need to make a change? How about on Day One? Oh, I get you, I know it is hard when life is hard but try this: For the one thing going wrong in your life, there are ten things going right. Don’t think about your problems. Don’t talk about your problems. Don’t exaggerate your problems and then look at Philippians 2:14 “Do all things without complaining.” Try thinking and talking obsessively about your blessings. Take a few minutes to rapid fire each blessing that comes to mind or make a written list of your top 10 or 20 blessings and then hold that list in your hand and rapid fire say what you’re thankful for out loud. If you take this first step, you’ll start to feel joyful and hopeful. This earth experience is hard. It’s not our home but there is always something to be thankful for. Stay focused on what is true. You are enough in Christ and many others are thankful for who and, as you are…everyday. 8/9/2021
God Knows Your LifeMonday Matters-August 9, 2021
Everyday His Hand in Life I just stared at my journal looking at the verse I had written down from Psalm 139:5, “You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head.” I didn’t believe it. I was feeling sorry for myself, and God felt far away so I slammed my journal shut. We have a choice on what we think on, and I was making bad choices. I felt my circumstances weren’t fair and I was tired of waiting. I know where the “Poor Me” road leads and so out of obedience I put on fun music and said the verse aloud, “God I trust that You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head. I don’t feel it, but I trust you. Help. Amen.” It wasn’t an immediate shift in my attitude but the choice to think on what I knew was true and then names things aloud that I was thankful for, made a difference. The truth is, God loves you right where you’re at, no matter how you’re feeling …everyday. 8/6/2021
ReconciliationFriday Matters-August 6, 2021
Everyday Reconciliation It’s so hard when someone has hurt you and, “It’s not fair. Why is this happening to me?” I want payback now!” God IS taking care of things in HIS timing. He’s God and we’re not. Romans 12:19 is the promise from God saying. “I’ll take care of it because it’s Mine to avenge.” But you’re having a hard time waiting and you’re angry. You know God loves you but your anger prevents you from rational thought. You’re not alone here. We’ve all been “there.” Remember too that there’s an enemy and he uses others to get us riled up and sometimes in our anger we become sinful and downright mean. Let’s try to get in the habit of asking this question to ourselves, “Have you prayed about it as much as you’ve posted about it. Let the person be taken off your hook and placed on His. In the meantime, you may need to set healthy boundaries and forgive which is necessary for our FREEDOM. Reconciliation may take longer because both parties need to own the truth and stop blaming each other. But don’t worry. God promises to avenge you because He sees and knows your feelings and above all He knows your heart…everyday. 8/5/2021
Holy SpiritThursday Matters- August 5, 2021
Everyday His Home in Us Life is hard. Can we do the hard stuff like forgiving those who never apologize or have peace when a health report is terminal? We can live free even when life is hard. The moment you receive Christ you are filled with the Holy Spirit and so you have the potential to live a life of victory over sin. This potential is released by faith as you surrender control of your life. In 2 Timothy we read how the Holy Spirit makes His home in us! When you allow the Holy Spirit to lead you, He becomes involved in every decision you make—both major and minor. He leads you by peace and by wisdom, by what God says in the Bible. He speaks to your heart. So, if you read in Ezekiel, you see God’s promise that the day would come when He would give people a new heart and put His Sprit within them. Under the old covenant, the Holy Spirit only came upon people for special purposes, but He did not live inside them as He does with us who know Him…everyday. 8/4/2021
Prayer WorksWednesday Matters- August 4, 2021
Everyday Prayers Working Something happens when we pray that doesn’t happen when we don’t. “Something happens when we pray that doesn’t happen when we don’t.” BUT if we don’t feel or see an answer to what we were asking for then we may start to think that God isn’t listening. BUT He always hears our prayers and sometimes the answer is “no” and sometimes the answer is “yes.” I think the hardest reply is to hear, “wait.” “I don’t get it. It’s not fair and God I’m starting to wonder if You care or even exist.” We all may have had those thoughts at one time or another but don’t give up. God is always on the move. He’s on “it” whatever “it” may be. Psalm 27:13 I know, “I would’ve despaired unless I’d believed that I’d see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.” Then read verse 14, “Wait for the Lord; Be strong. Let your heart take courage. Waiting is hard but, trust me, with God it’s worth it…everyday. |
