ForgivenessMonday Matters-October 2, 2023
Everyday Sinners Club God is love. God is holy. Sometimes we can get out of balance with both….too liberal in our definition of love or we become too legalistic in keeping God’s commands. Don’t miss the point; ABOVE ALL is God’s love. We think since God has the power to do something, unless He does it, He does not love. Yet, because God is pure love, He cannot accept evil in any form. God's holiness demands consequences for sin. Today, many people want to run from consequences. The lack of teaching on true morality has lowered the bar. Sometimes we tell God; "Our sins are not so wrong. What others do is much worse." I’ve been there…done that. Ecclesiastes 12 tells us; “Everything which is hidden, whether it is good or evil” will come before Him. We are all in the sinner’s club and we all need to be in the Savior’s club …everyday. 9/25/2023
HopeMonday Matters-September 25, 2023
Everyday Future Promises I love the blessing of a baby, but I don’t like the wait and discomfort of being pregnant. Hey this is Debbie Griffith with Everyday Matters. And it’s sometimes like that when God speaks to us about our future. WE become so excited or “pregnant” with what God tell us that we have a really hard time waiting. We can’t see into the spiritual realm, but we must trust and wait on God because activity is taking place concerning His promises in our lives. In Genesis 15 God told Abraham to look at the stars in the sky saying, “So shall your descendants be.” And the Lord counted it to Abraham as righteousness because Abe believed and trusted in what God told him his future would be. You might be pregnant with some good thing God has promised you and if so, put your hope and trust in Him and then wait for His perfect timing. He is always on aware and always on the move whether we see or feel He is at work or not. Wait in hope and faith…everyday. 9/18/2023
RelationshipsMonday Matters-September 18, 2023
Everyday Right Relationship “What’s wrong with me?” Sometimes that’s what goes through my mind when I just can’t seem to stop thinking negatively or I rehearse what I should’ve done differently. Hey this is Debbie Griffith with Everyday Matters. I’m a sinner but God tells us that we’re all sinners in Romans 3:23. We all fall short of the glory of God. But watch out cuz Satan wants us to feel wrong and worthless. He knows that without confidence we’ll never step out in faith to fulfill what God has planned for us. He knows if he can keep us in the prison of self-hatred, self-rejection or plain not liking ourselves that he’ll prevent us from making progress plus we’ll be a threat to him! We must believe we’ve been made righteous in God’s sight before we’ll behave rightly. We can’t produce the fruit of something when no seed has been sown. Think about it; Jesus is the Righteous Seed sown in death and resurrected in power so that means we are accepted and approved and the righteousness of God …everyday. 9/11/2023
EmotionsMonday Matters-September 11, 2023
Everyday Stirred Emotions I shared with a friend on Facebook that we shouldn’t let the enemy stir up our emotions of worry lest we fall into fear and depression. Hey this is Debbie Griffith with Everyday Matters. And my friend Amy wrote back; “So being without emotion is a good thing? God can use it to protect me from evil?” “Well,” I said, “God gives us our feelings and emotions which is a good thing, but we shouldn't be controlled by them. We may feel afraid, but we don't need to let the feeling of fear control our behavior. We can step out in faith and courage knowing God is with us. We might FEEL, shaky, like throwing up, or break out in a cold sweat but let’s not let Satan intimidate. The enemy wants to use our feelings of fear and depression to immobilize us. Repeating the truth that God is with us and never leaves us is what helps us to walk in faith.” Take one step at a time knowing 2 Corinthians 12:9; His grace is sufficient, and His power works best in weakness…everyday.” 9/4/2023
Remembered NotMonday Matters-September 4, 2023
Everyday Erased Think how amazing it is that God chooses not to remember your messy past or sins. He chooses never to bring them up again once you've received His forgiveness. Hey this is Debbie Griffith with Everyday Matters. In Isaiah 43:25 God tells us; “I am the One who wipes out your transgressions for My own sake; and I will not remember your sins." When you read Hebrews 11, you see a list of the great men of faith; Abraham, Moses, David, etc. yet none of their sins are listed even though they were sinners. This is because God chooses not to recall the sins that He’s already erased. Now travel to Ephesians 4:32 where Jesus tells us to forgive as the Father has forgiven us. This can be so difficult. That means when we choose to forgive someone, we also must choose not to bring up that offense again; to them, others or to ourselves… ever! Probably the hardest thing is to not allow our minds to rehearse the hurt. ONLY through His Holy Spirit strength is this possible…everyday. 8/28/2023
SuccessMonday Matters-August 28, 2023
Everyday Success Key A post on Instagram read; “A key to success is playing the hand you were dealt like it was the hand you wanted.” I had to really think if there was truth to that. Yes, I may not have wanted what was dealt but “here it is” so what am I gonna do with it? My choices; scream, cry, complain and hide or I make the best of the situation and find the lesson, and blessing in it. We can let experiences change us for the better or ruin us. Character more often is developed in crisis when we stop focusing on the hurt and search out a good that can come where success may be hidden. During my recovery of scoliosis back surgery in 2002 I was miserable yet I don’t regret what I went through. God taught me things I could have never learned any other way. Christ is the only one who can change our hearts when we are broken so we can become beautiful, and find success like never before…everyday. 8/21/2023
Loved, Redeemed And Not A MistakeMonday Matters-August 21, 2023
Everyday I Need Him When I honestly accepted who God said I was, loved, redeemed and not a mistake, I felt I could stop pretending and performing. I need Him desperately. It is not the “they” who are poor, sinful and lost. It’s awareness that we ourselves are the primary target. Unless we acknowledge that we are the sinners, the sick ones and the lost sheep for whom Jesus came, we do not belong to the “blessed” who know that they are poor and inherit the Kingdom. Do you ever try and appear righteous before God and others with your performance. I have and it’s exhausting. It’s a dangerous zone when get our assurance from wealth or our status. Oh my goodness…”they” is me, wretched, pitiably poor and so often blind. Isaiah 64 lays things out clearly when we begin to think, “I’m doing really well here.” “We’re all unclean and all our righteous acts are like filthy garbage. It’s what Jesus did on the cross that cleans us up and sets us free…everyday. 8/14/2023
Don’t Give UpMonday Matters-August 14, 2023
Everyday Keep On Often our prayers are ones where we cry about all that is wrong and we list what needs fixing. Just so you know, it’s more than OK to do this. God cares about our pain and all that happens to us. But sometimes we stop praying and give up on God because He didn’t answer the prayer like we thought – our sick friend got sicker and the marriage we prayed would stay together ended in divorce. That’s hard. I’m sorry if that’s been the outcome for you in a prayer, but please remember this truth in your heart. GOD WILL NEVER GIVE UP ON YOU. Nothing you do or don’t will cause Him to withdraw His love. And nothing is too small or too big for Him to take care of. He loves each of us personally. There is something redeemable in your mess and pain right now. Get up, bring a gift to someone this day, a card of encouragement or a muffin, something. Serving someone else will help you…everyday. 8/7/2023
AppearanceMonday Matters-August 7, 2023
Everyday Costumes I have a hobby or perhaps my husband would call it a problem. I like to self-decorate or costume myself with outfits and in the past this hobby has resulted in me going into credit card debt. Several years ago before shopping at the Mall of America I wrote in my journal a prayer; “Jesus than You for You. Thanks for things too. Today help me with spending. I ask for a coat that just ‘fits’ me. Help. Amen.” I went to a consignment store and found a designer coat that had just gone on half price. Then I walked into a consignment shop and found a purple skirt that had my name on it. I stayed within my budget. What’s always so crazy cool too is to see that what I’ve read in the Bible on the same day fits too; “Grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus.” All glory is His. What matters to us matters to God too. But honestly it’s His presence more than His presents I want…everyday. 7/31/2023
HumilityMonday Matters-July 31, 2023
Everyday Humility Remember that song, “Oh Lord, it’s hard to be humble when you’re perfect in everyday way?” We laugh cuz like yeah right, “as if.” But sometimes we’re so busy pointing out the faults of others that we don’t take time to look at our own that we need to address. My mentor friend Barb wrote, “True humility is not a denial of your positive attributes. It isn’t a humble person who says, “I’m not good at anything.” This is an expression of pride which says, “Look at poor me. I just have to have special consideration because I’m so weak. Please pity me...treat me well.” On the contrary, the truly humble person recognizes their strengths and weaknesses and so rather than a concentration on yourself, humility leads you to look around you for opportunities to encourage and help others.” Snap. When you understand humility that way it helps you to be confident in the gifts God’s given you rather than feeling bad about what you don’t have. Happy and free people are humble people…everyday. |
